A tradition in my lay Dominican (3rd order) chapter is the selection of a new, personal Dominican patron saint that changes annually. We randomly draw the names of Dominican saints and blesseds; that saint or blessed can become our personal patron if we so choose.
I decided when participating to let the Holy Ghost work and select my Dominican to be the honory patron of this, my new blog. Oh, how well the Holy Ghost works!
I drew the name of Bl. Jane of Aza, mother our Holy Father St. Dominic. The blog is very new and as I try to get it off the ground and cultivated to its intended mission, I can’t help but compare it to Bl, Jane, a wonderful mother helping to cultivate the great spirit of St. Dominic in preparation for his spiritual mission.
Blessed Jane of Aza, mother of our Holy Father St. Dominic and of Bl. Mannes. Blessed Jane was born into the Aza family. She was the spiritual power in a most religious family being mother to St. Dominic, Bl. Mannes and Venerable Anthony, a priest, and wife to Venerable Felix de Guzman. She was "virtuous, chaste, prudent, and full of compassion for the poor and the afflicted." She died at Caleruega, Spain, in the early thirteenth century. She was beatified by Leo XII in 1828.
